Club Historians
Hello to any club goers, past and present out there. We are keen to keep alive the club spirit that existed for so long in working men's and other clubs over the years. Ok- so times have changed, but so can clubs to keep themselves at the heart of local communities. If you would like to know more about what has been going on to write the history of clubs and to bring folk together, please take a look at our website Ruth Cherrington A Note about the Author. Ruth Cherrington grew up with a club right across the street! It was a central place in her family’s leisure time just as it was for the majority of local people. Club life for her was both familiar and yet special. Ruth was a university lecturer and teacher trainer at universities both in the UK and overseas for well over 20 years but never lost the club-going habit. She still likes a game of bingo! Her personal experiences and later in-depth research led her to set up a website dedicated to the collecting memories of club goers. Since 2008, http://www.clubhistorians.co.uk has brought world-wide attention to our clubs. |
